I am sorry to inform you that the October 20, 2000, Kentucky Council on Archives Conference will not be held as planned. The meeting, which was to be held at Fort Knox, is being cancelled due to extenuating circumstances that kept the Post from confirming our reservation location and needs in a timely manner.

Having dealt with the Fort's scheduling division since May, and believing all was arranged for our conference, I was dismayed when I was notified of conflicts two weeks ago. On their assurances that everything could be worked out at the Post, the meeting announcement time was extended beyond the limit needed for a normal Kentucky Council on Archives member notification and registration. This action was taken because there was no reason to believe that they would not be able to provide for our conference. However, as of last Friday, September 22, I had yet to obtain any final information from them, even though they had been informed that a confirmation was imperative.

After consulting with the Executive Board, it has been decided that it is now too late to pursue another location, provide registration time for KCA members, or comply with the by-laws. This is a very unfortunate situation and I apologize. If any member wishes more information on this matter, please contact me and I will be happy to explain the situation more fully. I will also send requestors a copy of the letter to be sent to General B.B. Bell, the Commanding General at Ft. Knox.

On a happier note, our meeting celebrating the Council's 25th anniversary will be held next spring in Bowling Green at Western Kentucky University. Plans for that meeting are underway, and members will be notified around the first of the year of those plans. We should have a great time so please plan on attending.

Thank you for understanding about this fall's non-meeting.

Sincerely,

Lynne Hollingsworth, Treasurer
